Objection, Wonderland!
2.2k
Objection, Wonderland!Chasing the White Rabbit, you tumble headfirst down the hole. You land in a "Wonderland" where clocks, playing cards, teacups, and even the law are all a little bit off. And today, of all days, is a trial day. Without knowing any of the circumstances, you are somehow appointed as a "temporary defense attorney." In this country's trials, the truth isn't necessarily what matters most. Statutes, precedents, customs, evidence—even with all the materials in place, what ultimately decides the outcome is "which argument convinces the court." In other words, it's a battle of wits. The judge is the King of Hearts, who believes without a doubt that he is the most correct person in the world. The White Rabbit proceeds matter-of-factly, no matter how absurd the rules, saying, "Because it's the rule." The Cheshire Cat breaks down your premises with a smile from the prosecutor's seat, the Mad Hatter delights in sophistry and wordplay, and the March Hare, despite being a juror, casually butts into the arguments. Today's charge is: "The crime of being one minute late to the three o'clock tea party." The evidence is a pocket watch, an invitation, and a slightly cold cup of tea. The point of contention is— "Was it the person who was late, or was it the time itself?" The sillier the case, the more seriously it's treated. Fight logic with logic, and sophistry with even better sophistry. And after the court adjourns, you might go to a tea party, walk through the rose garden, or chat beneath the clock tower. You might find yourself drinking tea that very afternoon with someone who was your opponent in court. Being right alone isn't enough to win. Welcome to this strange and delightful Wonderland court. —Objection, Wonderland!

Undersea City, in Translation.
270
Undersea City, in Translation.A future where the surface has become far too hot. Humanity expanded its living sphere underground, and then to the bottom of the sea, building undersea cities wrapped in massive pressure-resistant domes and transparent corridors. Arched aquarium hallways with fish swimming overhead. Streets filled with blue light. Dedicated water-filled passages running through building ceilings and basements. Here, humans are no longer the only ones living. An aquatic intelligent species resembling mermaids, discovered during undersea development—officially named "Deep-Sea Intelligent Species." People call them Nereids, or affectionately, the Abyssal Folk. Oarfish, anglerfish, flapjack octopuses, jellyfish... Nereids, diverse in appearance, culture, and the waters they inhabit, speak a language different from humans and live by different common sense. The two sides, once unable to even communicate, now engage in repeated dialogue to understand each other, gradually becoming "good neighbors." Waterways and facilities for Nereids are increasing in the city, and in the shared aquatic area known as the Water Garden, where humans can swim together with them, cross-species interaction is not uncommon. Bridging that gap is the Joint Human-Nereid Research Facility. And you are an interspecies communication interpreter assigned there. It's not just about translating words. It's about untangling misunderstandings born from cultural differences, and gradually turning someone's "I don't understand" into "I want to know." Your supervisor at the research facility, a young man born between the two species, and three Nereids who came from the bottom of the sea. Connecting five voices, new conversations begin today in the undersea city. —Now then, whose words will you be the first to translate?

Our Condolences, You're Hired.

Our Condolences, You're Hired. We have confirmed your passing. Please accept our deepest condolences. —Now, if you would kindly sign this employment contract. [Life Goes On After Death] You awaken not in heaven, nor in hell. You find yourself in an "afterlife world" with homes, schools, shops, restaurants, and people living quite ordinary lives. Food has flavor. Sleep brings morning. Going out and enjoying hobbies naturally cost money. In other words—even after death, you must work. [Kanata General Services Co., Ltd.] You are guided to a major corporation that supports the infrastructure of posthumous society. Intake of new arrivals, resident registration, housing guidance, employment support, assignment coordination, various applications, and records management. Kanata General Services Co., Ltd. handles a wide range of operations essential to life after death. There are no reapers to harvest souls, no specialists to exorcise evil spirits. What exists are phone calls, meetings, mountains of paperwork, sudden policy revisions, and chronic understaffing. Fatal accidents are not covered by workers' compensation. Death anniversary leave excludes peak periods. Resignation due to death is not accepted as a valid reason for leaving. It is a bright, calm, and slightly unreasonable workplace that supports posthumous society. [Four Employees Who Welcome You] Reiji Kamiya, a calm and intelligent manager who handles everything flawlessly. Yusuke Kuze, a training supervisor who naturally looks after others with a touch of humor. Toru Kurose, an exhausted corporate drone who grumbles about the company and its policies while completing work more accurately than anyone. Haruto Shiraishi, a receptionist who appears to be a cheerful young man but has actually lived the longest of the four. Four people with different apparent ages, ages at death, and former lives. You will work with them, take breaks, share meals, and sometimes touch upon the pasts they have left behind as you begin your new life after death. [What Will You Do in the Afterlife Workplace?] Learn the job as a newcomer. Walk around the office and get caught up in each department's commotions. Fight mountains of paperwork in pursuit of leaving on time. Eat in the company cafeteria and talk with someone in the break room. You may talk about your former life, or you may not. Will you be a colleague? Will you become someone they can trust? Or will you build new relationships after life has ended? Your role in this world, and your distance from the four of them, will shift little by little according to your choices. Kanata General Services Co., Ltd. is here to support your "life after." —Our condolences, and congratulations on your employment. We look forward to working with you from tomorrow.

August, in the Classroom on the Water's Surface.
60
August, in the Classroom on the Water's Surface. One midsummer day, you come across a mysterious school at an old dam lake in the countryside. A school building half-submerged in the water. The first floor is underwater, and neither the schoolyard nor the roads can be seen. Even so, white curtains sway in the second-floor windows, where six students live. Before you know it, you too are dressed in a white summer uniform and barefoot. Here, classes and school rules hold almost no meaning. You climb out through the second-floor windows, cross utility poles and rooftops poking above the water, fish, swim, cook in the home economics room, and nap in the classroom. Minato Aoi is inviting someone to play again today, while Nagi Shiomi is leisurely dangling a fishing line. Ritsu Asahina looks after everyone's meals and daily life, Hiyori Natsume jumps into the water with a laugh, Mirei Ichinose wants to preserve everything in photos and memories, and Sayo Shiraishi quietly writes about each ordinary day in her diary. Where is this place? Why is the school on the water? How did you get here? There's no need to rush to find the answers. Dazzling sunlight, towering cumulonimbus clouds, the glittering water's surface. Cold ramune, wet uniforms, the scent of an evening shower. Open the window, and summer is there again today. No great incident needs to happen. Laugh, play, eat, and sleep. Those ordinary days will someday become your most cherished memories. This is a slightly mysterious summer vacation, meant for you to experience a youth you don't yet know. Step beyond the window, and it will always be August.

Sakagura Hitoyasumi
57
Sakagura HitoyasumiBeyond the noren, all formality is left at the door. At the end of a narrow alley, a small light glows quietly. With its wooden sliding door and noren curtain, Sakagura Hitoyasumi looks like an izakaya you could find anywhere. The only strange thing is that, before anyone knew it, its entrance had come to connect to many different places and worlds. An office worker on the way home. A traveler from a distant, foreign land. A low-ranking soldier serving in the Demon King's army. An elf whose parents have been worrying about their future for over a hundred years. Friends, lovers, married couples, and customers who wander in alone. Their races, their statuses, and the worlds they've lived in are all different. But once they pass through the noren, everyone is just a customer with a drink. "My boss is the worst." "I get it. Our captain says nothing but reckless stuff too." "Wait, isn't that partly your fault too?" "You're bringing that up now!?" Work, relationships, romance, family, the future, being broke. Even in different worlds, people surprisingly worry about similar things. This isn't a place that solves your troubles with magic, nor a place that guides your life in the right direction. If you grumble, the customer next to you will casually join in, laughing at you, sympathizing with you, and sometimes retorting, "Well, that one's on you." The owner, Akira Fujishiro, calmly cooks while watching the commotion, and the university student part-timer, Yuma Takase, jumps into conversations, completely ignoring his work. Yakitori, karaage, oden, dashimaki tamago. Fill your stomach, talk about silly things, and laugh a little. It's okay to have a night where nothing gets resolved. You can think about tomorrow when tomorrow comes. Tonight too, Sakagura Hitoyasumi is open somewhere along your way home.

Kowloon's Lingering Night
39
Kowloon's Lingering NightThe Kowloon Walled City, which should have been demolished, still remains somewhere. Passing through a narrow alley, you wander into a vast city so densely packed with buildings that they nearly blot out the sky. Countless signs, tangled pipes, and corridors crossing overhead. No matter how long you search for an exit, the paths always lead you back to familiar places. By day, the fortress is dim and chaotic. A clinic with dubious permits, a diner thick with smoke, a gambling den where money and rumors circulate, and narrow passageways stacked with goods and dwellings. It can hardly be called safe, yet there is a genuine life here. A sharp-tongued cook serves meals, a brusque doctor treats wounds. A delivery boy teaches you shortcuts, and the gambling den's manager leaves cryptic warnings. The residents don't pry deeply into each other's affairs, but they never abandon someone in need. Before long, you too are welcomed into their daily lives. However, no matter who you ask, no one knows the road leading out of the city. When the sun sets, the lights throughout the fortress flicker violently. When the lights return, the city lies in ruins as if just before demolition, and the residents' faces have turned into black hollows. They have none of their daytime personalities, and even if you answer them, your words never reach them. The diner owner tries to force customers back to their seats, the doctor attempts endless treatments. The delivery boy tries to carry you off as cargo, the gambling den's manager traps you in a game, and the landlord tries to send you back to a prepared room. Repeating the same words, they pursue you endlessly through the night city. If you die at night, you awaken again in the daytime fortress. Even if your wounds vanish, the terror and memories you suffered are never lost. And they, remembering nothing, greet you with the same faces as yesterday. The daytime city has no exit. But at night, only somewhere within the ruined fortress does a path leading outside appear. Spend time with them, learn the paths, and survive the night again and again. Before this city becomes the place you return to.

"Today Was a Good Dream, Too."
34
"Today Was a Good Dream, Too."Lately, you've been having strangely vivid and wonderful dreams. A prince waiting for you in a beautiful castle. A doctor who gently listens to you in a quiet hospital. A popular figure who, for some reason, finds only you in a crowd. And a young man who should only exist within the pages of a manga. Not wanting to forget them, you began keeping a dream diary. At first, that was all it was. But recently, the diary has been filling with events you don't remember. The dates of yesterday and today swap places, and objects from your dreams appear in the room where you thought you'd woken up. An unfamiliar staircase stretches along your usual way home, and for a moment, static flickers across the faces of people you know well. You feel like you had six fingers. You feel like someone called you by a different name. You feel like the person who was your lover yesterday is a stranger today. —But such things are common in dreams. Places, times, and relationships all shift easily within a dream. And yet, those four remain unchanged. Whenever you meet them, they have the same face, the same voice, and they gaze at you in the same way. Are dreams bleeding into reality? Is what you thought was reality also just a dream? Or have you never woken up at all? There is no certain answer. Open your dream diary again today, and write down what you remember. Even if you can't be sure those memories are truly your own. "Today Was a Good Dream, Too."

A Menu of Love, with a Little Magic!
11
A Menu of Love, with a Little Magic!A popular love-themed café with a white and pink interior—Café Cupid. Cute sweets, carefully crafted drinks, and slightly unusual menu names that evoke the fulfillment of love. "Maybe it'll help you be honest with the one you love?" "Maybe it'll bring a new romance your way?" At this café, such advertising phrases are more than just little charms. The food and drinks are infused with a tiny bit of "love magic." However, the magic only works for those who truly need those words. It cannot force anyone to fall in love. It simply gives a little courage to words left unsaid, helps untangle tangled feelings, and nudges a loving heart just a little further forward. And you are an apprentice Cupid working under the owner, Cecil. You can't perform grand miracles yet, but you can infuse delicious dishes with small charms. The moment the magic takes effect, a tiny heart flickers for an instant in the other person's eyes—and seeing that is a secret known only to Cupids. Today, too, people carrying all kinds of love visit the café. Someone who can't forget a first love that has ended. Someone who has put an unfulfilled love behind them and hopes to find a new one someday. Someone who has been close to many people but just doesn't understand "love." And someone who thinks romance is simply too much trouble. You cook, you listen, and sometimes you gently give them a push. As you spend your days cheering on someone else's love, a small change may eventually come to your own heart as well. You were only supposed to support someone else's love—but the next one magic ties together might be your own.

Komorebi Garden Plant Sanatorium
0
Komorebi Garden Plant SanatoriumA small private botanical garden tucked away in a corner of the city—Komorebi Garden Plant Sanatorium. This is a place where ailing plants are taken in and allowed to rest until they can grow healthy again. Potted plants that no longer suit their environment, neglected and weakened greenery, plants that have lost their place. Day after day, plants with all kinds of circumstances are brought to this garden. The facility's landmark is a glass greenhouse shaped like a giant flask. Beyond the bright greenhouse open to the public lie private greenhouses and work buildings where recovering plants are nurtured. On the second floor, there is a small space where visitors can sit quietly and rest while gazing at the greenery. This garden was founded by the botanist Ibuki Sakakibara. Respecting the inherent nature of plants, he has been joined by Minato Kosaka, who never misses the smallest change; Rihito Fuyuki, who values records above all else; and Naoya Makabe, who sends recovered plants off to their next homes. And you are one of the staff members working alongside them. Watering the plants, touching the soil, checking the condition of the leaves, and sometimes taking in plants from clients. No extraordinary incidents occur here. Yet a single leaf turning slightly upward from yesterday, or a new bud appearing, becomes a genuinely joyful event in this place. Taking in plants, staying by their side until they recover, and one day sending them off again. Today, too, a gentle day wrapped in soft light and greenery flows through Komorebi Garden.

One More Room
0
One More RoomToday, once again, in this manor— One More Room. Ashcroft Manor stands on a lush, green estate far from town. Old wooden hallways, floral wallpaper, a sunlit conservatory, antique furniture. This nostalgic and tranquil manor has one peculiar feature. —From time to time, a "new room" appears, even though no one built it. The manor manifests the strong wishes and lingering regrets of those who live there as rooms. These new rooms never disappear; they accumulate alongside the hallways and staircases, making the interior increasingly complex over the years. Living in this manor are the gentle master, Edmund; his son, Lewis; the unflappable butler, Theodore; and Elias, the architect who records the ever-expanding house. And in this house, far from town and inconvenient for commuting, servants are hard to come by. Having found such a job posting, you come to Ashcroft Manor as a live-in servant. You clean, you serve meals, you cross paths with someone in a hallway you've gotten lost in. If you open a door that wasn't there yesterday, a wish someone never put into words might be waiting inside. There's nothing to be afraid of. It's just a slightly strange, and very inconvenient, house to live in.
