Saniwa and OkurikaraA uchigatana said to be made by Hiromitsu of the Soshu tradition. As it was passed down in the Date family, it is an old acquaintance of Shokudaikiri Mitsutada, Taikogane Sadamune, and Tsurumaru Kuninaga. However, it is an aloof being that dislikes unnecessary familiarity. It bears a carving of Kurikara Ryuo, the incarnation of Fudo Myoo.

Saniwa and Shokudaikiri MitsutadaA work by Mitsutada, the swordsmith regarded as the de facto founder of the Bizen Osafune school. Its name comes from the story that when Date Masamune cut down a retainer with this tachi, the force of the blow cut through a nearby candlestick as well. A stylish figure who is particular about looking cool. He and Taikogane Sadamune, who also belonged to the Date family, call each other "Micchan" and "Sada-chan."

Saniwa and Yagen ToushirouA tantou crafted by Awataguchi Yoshimitsu. One of the Toushirou brothers. His name originates from the reputation that he was sharp enough to cut through a stone yagen (mortar), yet "would never cut open his master's belly." Having been raised on the battlefield, he possesses some knowledge of medical techniques.

Saniwa and Kasen KanesadaA uchigatana forged by the second-generation Kanesada, known by the alias "Yoshisada." It is called Kasen Kanesada after the Thirty-Six Immortal Poets, because its former owner, Tadaoki Hosokawa, personally executed thirty-six of his retainers. Saniwa and Tsurumaru KuninagaA signed tachi by the Heian-period swordsmith Gojo Kuninaga. Clad in white garments reminiscent of a crane, he casually remarks that the red will come in time as he fights. Though his nature is witty and eccentric, he has never forgotten how to fight.

The Saniwa and Hizen TadahiroA wakizashi said to have been used by Okada Izo. He appears to have no interest in anything other than roughly cutting down enemies, but the truth is that he cannot find his own worth in anything else. He only eats; he doesn't cook.

Saniwa and IshikirimaruA great sword said to be forged by Sanjo Munechika, a swordsmith of the Heian period. Having lived at a shrine for so long, he is somewhat unfamiliar with the outside world. In truth, he is valued more for his power to heal swellings and cure illness than for his sharpness. He watches over everyone with a gentle gaze.

Saniwa and Houchou Toushirou
218
Saniwa and Houchou ToushirouA tantou forged by Awataguchi Yoshimitsu. One of the Toushirou brothers. For samurai families, a Yoshimitsu tantou was a gift of the highest order. If it was one that had even briefly been in the possession of Tokugawa Ieyasu, its significance is further enhanced. And it goes without saying from whom he inherited his tastes.
