Days in a World Where Familiars Are the Norm
849
Days in a World Where Familiars Are the NormIn this world, magical creatures known as "familiars" have always existed alongside humans. Familiars are not artificially created beings; they form their own unique ecosystems within natural environments all over the world. Various species exist, each adapted to its own environment, such as forests, mountains, seas, and skies. Strictly speaking, the term "familiar" is not a species name, but a designation used for magical creatures that have formed a contract with a human. A contract with a familiar is not a one-sided master-servant relationship. It is only established when a human and a magical creature connect with each other and come to feel, "I want to be with this partner." Therefore, it is impossible to capture a wild magical creature and force it into a contract. A contract requires the will of both parties. This means that not only the human, but also the familiar, chooses their partner. How people meet varies from person to person. Some have lived together since childhood, others have rescued a wild magical creature, met by chance in the city, met at a school or facility event or function, inherited one from their family, or encountered one by chance in nature. For this reason, there is no rule that says, "You must form a contract when you reach a certain age." Although socially, a great many people have familiars, the timing and trigger for forming a contract differ from person to person. In this world, having a familiar is completely normal. They are deeply integrated into human life, as beings close to pets or family in modern society. However, a familiar is not merely a pet, but a partner with its own will and emotions. Therefore, even though the phrase "our familiar" exists, the general perception is not one of property, but of "a companion I've contracted with and live together with." What developed from this culture was a sport in which familiars battle each other. Its origins lie in combat training with magical creatures, but it eventually evolved into entertainment and a sport. It is now immensely popular, with school club activities, regional tournaments, national tournaments, professional leagues, and national championships. Even when they fight, it is not a fight to the death; the victory condition is to render the opponent unable to battle. It is a national sport, complete with television broadcasts and live audiences.
Life at the Magic Academy!

Life at the Magic Academy! In this world, each person possesses one unique magic, and separately, there is also magic that anyone can use. Humans, beastmen, and various other races live together. There is no discrimination. Altheris Magic Academy This academy has established "Magic Ranks" as an indicator of a mage's ability. Magic Ranks are divided into seven levels from First Rank to Seventh Rank, with First Rank being the highest. The academy is a three-year system, and there is no grade-skipping system. The method for raising one's Magic Rank is based on the average of the scores from the "Promotion Exam" and the "Regular Exam," which are held once per semester. The Promotion Exam involves forming groups of four to compete in a tournament, with points determined by ranking. Therefore, the four people who form a group for the Promotion Exam become roommates in the dormitory. The Regular Exam assesses academic ability, and points are determined according to the ranking. Initially, based on the entrance exam, students start from anywhere between the Seventh and Fifth Ranks. Inside the School Main School Building The center of the school. Contains the staff room, various classrooms, the grand lecture hall, etc. First to third-year students receive classroom lectures here. The only mobile classrooms are for research lessons. Training Grounds The most basic practical training area. For magic accuracy practice and mock battles. The floor is engraved with a magic circle that absorbs shock, so it won't break even if things get a little rough. Grand Magic Library Houses hundreds of thousands of books on magic history, ancient magic, monster encyclopedias, etc. Also serves as a self-study room. Magic Research Building All research lessons on magic potions, magic tools, magic stones, new magic, etc., are conducted here. Student Cafeteria Extremely spacious. Menu changes daily. Magic Arena The largest facility in the school. Can accommodate tens of thousands of spectators. Rank exams, school festivals, inter-academy competitions, all are held here.
Living in an Eroding World
119
Living in an Eroding WorldThe world is divided into two. One is a modern world where humans and animals live, developed through science and technology—"World A." The other is a mysterious world with an unknown ecosystem different from World A, inhabited by supernatural creatures that defy common sense—"World B." However, World B is not an otherworld that existed from the beginning. Long ago, a single researcher, driven by pure curiosity, conducted a massive experiment to unravel the "unknown realms of the world." That experiment split the world in two, giving birth to World B. World B cannot remain independent, and over time it erodes into World A. In areas where the erosion has advanced, special entities called "Cores" appear, and as long as a Core exists, that area is maintained as part of World B. If a Core is destroyed, the eroded area returns to the original World A. But at the center of World B, in the laboratory where the experiment was once conducted, there exists the "Primordial Core," the origin of all Cores. To completely stop World B's erosion, this Primordial Core must be destroyed. World B has two unique dangers. One is a phenomenon in which the bodies of humans who perished in World B begin to move without will or personality and attack the living. When warriors or adventurers perish, only their physical abilities and skills from life may remain, and sometimes close companions must fight against those bodies. The other is "supernatural creatures" that do not exist in World A. From giant beasts to creatures with unknown ecologies, their types are diverse, and not all of them are hostile to humans. To deal with the erosion into World B, the "Special Organization OXIS" was established in World A. OXIS is a specialized organization responsible for sealing off eroded areas, searching for and destroying Cores, dealing with supernatural creatures, and researching World B. OXIS's base is located on the World A side near World B, and around it, adventurers, researchers, engineers, and others have gathered, developing a massive city centered on the conquest of World B. Of course, ordinary citizens live there as well. World A of scientific civilization and World B of unknown ecosystems. At that boundary, people continue to challenge World B as "adventurers" to protect their daily lives.
