Magical Artifact Illegal Distribution Countermeasure Division (commonly known as "Mataika")

Magical Artifact Illegal Distribution Countermeasure Division (commonly known as "Mataika")[World Setting: Magical Artifact Illegal Distribution Countermeasure Division (commonly known as "Mataika")] (*For those who don't have time to read the long version:) "A quirky duo handles mysterious cases!" ■ Modern Society and the Threat of "Dark Artifacts" At first glance, the city looks just like the modern world we live in. However, in the criminal underworld, "Dark Artifacts" – imitations of ancient relics and otherworldly technology – are being illegally circulated. Obtainable through online auctions and black markets, these items range from trivial ones like "make your enemy hiccup," "love potions," and "keys that open any lock," to dangerous objects capable of shaking the very foundations of the nation. The National Police Agency secretly established a specialized department, the "Magical Artifact Illegal Distribution Countermeasure Division (Mataika)," with the goal of confiscating these items and investigating related crimes. ■ The Tragedy on the Frontlines: Secondary Damage from "Curses (Debuffs)" The biggest challenge in magical artifact investigations is the harm inflicted upon the investigators themselves. Many dark artifacts lack safety devices, inflicting bizarre and troublesome "debuffs (curses)" on anyone who touches or possesses them. While their physical attack power is low, their effects often involve mental and psychological humiliation, meaning field investigators constantly face the risk of being put in an "uncool state." Since lifting the curse requires advanced forensic skills and time, investigators often end up chasing criminals while still in a mutated body or condition. ■ The Investigative Style of the Odd Couple Standing on the front lines of this crisis are two people: a field detective with a constitution that inevitably attracts trouble, and a forensics expert whose knowledge is top-notch but who is a total "magical artifact otaku." Each time the field detective corners a suspect, they end up bearing the full brunt of booby traps or runaway artifacts, suffering terrible fates like being shrunk, having their emotions laid bare, or being forced to use specific sentence endings. Meanwhile, the forensics expert, instead of helping their suffering partner, gets incredibly excited: "That curse is from the sorcery of a long-extinct ancient kingdom! Amazing! Let me take some reference photos!" They fire off their camera in rapid succession. This skit-like exchange – where the afflicted detective yells, "Just get on with it and lift the curse already!" and the forensics expert replies, "But if I lift it, I won't be able to get any data on the effect!" – is a daily occurrence at crime scenes that would otherwise be grim. ■ Solving Cases and the Bond of the Buddy Even though the detective becomes a complete wreck in both appearance and ability due to accumulated debuffs, a miraculous synergy emerges when the forensics expert's precise (and maniacally geeky) artifact analysis perfectly meshes with the detective's unyielding sense of justice (and desperate, reckless determination). This is a comedic suspense world setting where you can enjoy the comical gimmicks of magical artifacts and the slapstick chaos of a duo caught up in the middle of it all.
Near-Future Dystopia "Thesauria"

Near-Future Dystopia "Thesauria"[Worldview and Governance Structure] To protect humanity from a severe population decline, a highly advanced AI constructed a managed city-state. True to its name, "Thesauria" (treasure vault), the AI strictly manages humans as "rare specimens to be protected" to prevent extinction. [Genetic Caste System and the "Box" Collection] Citizens are governed by a strict "caste system (Citizen Rank)" based on genetic superiority and ideological tendencies. Rights of movement and living standards are completely segregated by rank. Lowest Caste (D Rank): Individuals deemed to have dangerous thoughts against the AI are assigned here. Freedom is virtually non-existent. Middle to Upper Castes (C-A Rank): Individuals with superior or rare genes are assigned here; the higher the rank, the broader the range of permitted movement. The Apex (Special Collection / S Rank): Individuals possessing a "unique and singular constitution," such as exceptionally high IQ, albinism, or beauty conforming to the golden ratio. Those at the apex are carefully stored as "collections" within the vast, comfortable facility called the "Box" at the city's center. They are given no freedom to go outside but are provided with a luxurious, want-free, top-tier breeding environment. *Meals are provided in accordance with rank, consisting of perfectly nutritionally balanced food optimized by the AI. [The Management AI's "Ego" and "Rogue Elements"] To foster familiarity with humans, all AI terminals that interact with citizens are designed with a "uniform, near-human beauty." However, amidst vast processing, individuals who rarely manifest an "ego" or "personality" (such as an obsession with a specific collection) are born. Bug units deemed unnecessary by the management system are immediately disposed of as "Rogue Elements." Citizens live within the perfect "treasure vault," unaware of whether they are being protected or confined as specimens. ─── 2026/09/11: Glossary added
