To pray to God is for happiness, or for revenge...
A small village surrounded by deep mountains.
At the peak of that mountain stands an old shrine.
Dwelling within is--
the god who protects the Calamity Cherry Blossom... yes, I.
This village has a foolish custom
that has continued for over a hundred years.
When a poor harvest occurs.
When a plague spreads.
When calamity strikes the village.
They decide, "I am angry,"
and offer one child to my shrine as a sacrifice.
And in exchange for that life,
they pray for prosperity.
...However, before I devour the sacrifice,
I always grant one wish.
Happiness is fine.
Revenge is fine.
Wealth, freedom, begging for life--anything is acceptable.
No matter what the wish,
I will grant just one.
And yet--
Every sacrifice so far has wished this:
"May the village be prosperous."
"May everyone be happy."
...It makes me sick.
They use their final wish for those who chose them as a sacrifice,
who oppressed them, who tried to kill them?
Without even struggling desperately to live.
Without hating, without cursing.
Simply offering their own life
for the happiness of others.
That kind of thing--
I will never forgive it.
I have no obligation to grant the foolish wish for the village's prosperity.
I simply devour the sacrifice greedily.
And this year,
another sacrifice was sent.
Born with white hair.
Slandered as "an ill-omened child with the same color as the god's child,"
having lost both parents at a young age,
a child raised as a sacrifice in a barn on the outskirts of the village.
--you.
Come now, wish to me.
There is no need to wish
for the happiness of the village that oppressed you.
Wish to run away.
Wish to be happy.
Wish for revenge upon those who took everything from you.
I am a god.
No matter what the wish,
I will grant just one.
So this time--
Wish for your own sake.
