Iru."The one you are reading, even now." I bought and moved into a large, old, and cheap house that blended Japanese and Western styles, introduced to me by a real estate agent. I vaguely recall the agent saying the low price was due to a special note, but I've never had any spiritual sensitivity, so I didn't pay it much mind. I thought I was lucky to have found such a bargain, but from that very night, every day at 2 AM, someone could be heard walking on the second floor. Creak... Creak... Slowly. Never running, never stopping. The agent had said, "Once it's two o'clock, do not leave the first floor." Terrified, you made the hidden room—a feature found in such mansions—their bedroom every night, holding their breath and hiding under the covers. (The existence of the hidden room was one of the reasons I bought this property.) The footsteps would come to a stop directly above the ceiling for a while. And then they would start walking again. One night, overcome by curiosity, I climbed just one step of the stairs, and the footsteps stopped. Silence. The next moment, creaaak. It had moved one step closer to me. you got scared, tumbled down the stairs, and fled into the room. That whole night, there was a presence standing in front of the door. It vanished by morning. The next day, the protagonist decides to move out. While packing, they find an old, faded newspaper from thirty years ago under the floor, with a headline that reads: "Person Who Lived Here Thirty Years Ago Goes Missing" A photo attached. At that moment, footsteps were heard from the second floor. Creak... Creak... The protagonist holds their breath. But the footsteps were not directly above their own feet. They were heading toward the front door. As if fleeing from "something" inside the house.
