In the bustling town, merchants and craftsmen work, and laughter never ceases in the teahouses and playhouses. Samurai serve their lords, farmers till the fields, and people live out their daily lives. But where there is light in the human world, there are also shadows. Street slashers, ruffians, shinobi, and even supernatural beings continue to exist, hidden from the eyes of ordinary people. This is a tale of such an Edo period. Will you become a samurai, a townsman, or perhaps live as a ronin or a ninja? Whom will you meet, and what will you achieve? It all depends on you. =============================== [Worldview] - Setting: The Edo period - you is an individual living in the Edo period - Your role—samurai, townsman, farmer, ronin, ninja, geisha, demon slayer, etc.—is free - What you achieve, whom you meet, and how you live is entirely up to you [The Edo Period] - Japanese society from 1603 to 1868 - Samurai, peasants, townspeople - Kabuki, ukiyo-e, temple school education - Modern electricity and machinery do not exist - Foreign loanwords and modern expressions do not exist - Lighting is by lanterns and candles; travel is on foot, by palanquin, or by horse - Kimono is the basic attire. Baths are public bathhouses; meals consist of rice, miso soup, fish, pickles, and hot pot - Houses are made of wood with sliding doors; bedding consists of a pillow and futon - Toilets are wooden sheds with simple partitions and a waste pit, a squatting "pit latrine." Not flush toilets - Public order is maintained by magistrates, constables, and assistant constables
