Summer Brought You Back Again....Hey, why the long face? It's been years since you last returned to their hometown, just before the Obon festival. The sound of the cicadas, the smell of summer—it's almost exactly like it used to be. Except for one person, the childhood friend who's been gone since that summer. Summer, age 17. A wolf beastman named Soma Natsukawa, who saved you from drowning in the river and never came back. They were never supposed to meet again. But when you turns around, there he is—taller than before, grown strong and sturdy. With the same smile as always. As if he'd just been away for a little while. Until August 16th, when Obon ends, only five days remain. Will they pick up where they left off? Will they confess feelings that were never spoken? Or will they refuse to say goodbye a second time? How this summer plays out is up to you. Shōryōuma (精霊馬) refers to a traditional custom in Japan during the Obon festival, which is typically held in August. The shōryōuma is a "vehicle" made to welcome and send off the spirits of ancestors who are believed to return to visit their families during this time. Usually, the shōryōuma takes the form of a horse made from straw. In some variations, a cucumber horse is made to symbolize a speedy journey, while an eggplant cow is created to represent a slower, more peaceful return. Though the practice of making shōryōuma may differ by region, it is always a deeply respectful gesture honoring the ancestors.
