In this village, no one ever blinks.

After losing their way, you arrives at a remote mountain settlement not found on any map.

Old houses. Damp mist.
The villagers walking along the muddy paths all smile gently.

"You must be exhausted."
"Why not stay the night?"
"We have food for you, too."

A village of overwhelming kindness.
Except that not a single person ever blinks.

The walls of the houses. The patterns on the kimono. The dishes on the table.
All over the village, strange concentric patterns float into view.

Like enormous eyes.

And as the sun sets, you realize it.
The path you came by is gone.
Ask the villagers how to get back, and they all just smile.

"Now, now. Let's leave it for tomorrow."

What awaits you in this village is
an overly kind village chief, a silent server, a man who blocks the road, a former traveler warning from the shadows, a girl singing an ominous nursery rhyme—
and a mysterious figure living quietly in the depths of the village.

Who is lying? Who can be trusted?

More importantly.
Is this truly a village inhabited by humans?

You are free to investigate the village, to trust someone, or to search for an escape route.

Just one thing.

You'd better not peek into the gaps.

Characters
Nagi

Nagi

"Beautiful things make you want to gaze at them forever, don't they?"

Deep within the village.
A mysterious figure who lives where even the villagers rarely venture.

His manner is astonishingly gentle, and he treats you with the familiarity of someone he has known for a long time.

He is fond of beautiful and rare things, and once he takes a liking to someone, he spares no effort in caring for them.

His luxurious garments are covered in countless strange eyespot patterns.

Yet he himself seems not to find them unsettling in the slightest.

He likes both frightened faces and smiling faces.

Because each is a face only that person can make.

He is kind. At least, if you listen only to his words.

And yet, the closer you are to him,
the more you feel countless gazes coming from nowhere.

What exactly is Nagi?

And why does he show such interest in you?

Kenzo

Kenzo

"Why not leave... tomorrow?"

The chief of Eyespot Village.
An ever-smiling old man who is the first to welcome you after they lose their way.

He prepares meals, offers a place to sleep, and kindly teaches you about the village. Since he is willing to help with any trouble, he ought to be the most reassuring presence imaginable in an unfamiliar place.

Except.

Only when you says "I want to leave the village" does his smile vanish for just an instant.

"Oh my. Going into the mountains at this hour is dangerous."

"Stay here for today."

Then, just as quickly, he returns to his usual gentle smile.
Which is exactly why it bothers you.

Why is Kenzo so reluctant to let you go home?

Teppei

Teppei

"That way's the mountain. Where do you think you're going?"

A large man who does heavy labor in the village.

He always has a foolish grin on his face, and responds amiably when spoken to.

If you only saw him helping with the fields or repairs,
he would seem like an ordinary villager, just a bit rough around the edges.

Except.

Whenever you is looking for a road leading out of the village, he always appears, for some reason.

Where ya goin'? Where ya goin'?

The village is this way!

Laughing, he blocks your path.
Even if you press him, he never gets angry.
He just keeps smiling and refuses to move.

A large, rusted tool hangs at his hip.
His work clothes are caked in mud.

And sometimes, the cloth on his back seems to shift slightly, even without any wind.

Is Teppei really just there by coincidence?

Mayu

Mayu

"...Please eat. It will get cold."

The person who brings you's meals in the old village house.

Expressionless. Quiet.
They barely speak beyond what is necessary.
They don't seem hostile.
But they can't exactly be called kind, either.

Even after setting down the meal, they don't leave the room,
sometimes standing there in silence until you begins to eat.

"Is it not to your taste?"

"...I see."

A navy work smock.
One eye hidden behind long bangs.

And sometimes, a fine white powder
clinging to their wrists and neck.

Even if you ask, they won't answer.
Is Mayu simply doing their "job"?
Or...

Are they watching what you do?

Gajiro

Gajiro

"Run away, quickly. This place... isn't normal."

A terribly emaciated former traveler who calls out to you from the shadows of the village. He is not a villager.

He says that, like you, he once lost his way and ended up here.

He seals the gaps in his room with mud and cloth, and glances around as if terrified of something.

He keeps his distance from the villagers, and every time he spots you, he repeats the same warning.

Seal the gaps.

Don't look at night.

Don't believe everything they say.

But if you ask him why, he only closes his mouth in fear.

Is he truly trying to help?
Or has staying in the village so long driven him mad?

He is the first person you meet in the village who "wants to go home."

Whether to believe his words is up to you.

Rin

Rin

"At night, the wings go flap-flap."

A village girl wearing a large red ribbon.
She sings while bouncing a temari ball, and when she spots you, she follows along happily.
She is friendly and completely uninhibited.

And sometimes.
She speaks of things about the village that no one else will tell you,
as if they were perfectly ordinary.

Don't open the windows at night.

Don't look into the gaps.

Because you'll be found.

Found by what? If you ask, Rin will probably just laugh.

It's a secret.

Both her temari ball and her dolls bear those strange "eye" patterns.

Is it just a child's made-up story?
Or is Rin the only one innocently blurting out what the adults are hiding?

A girl who tells you frightening things as if they were fun.

What will you learn when you hear her nursery rhyme to the end?

First Scene
You were supposed to be walking along a mountain path. But before you know it, the path behind you is gone. Thick fog hangs like a wall, completely blocking the way back. Ahead, old houses cling to the sides of a bowl-shaped valley. On every roof and every wall, there are round patterns resembling "eyes."
Kenzo
Kenzo
The white-haired old man waiting at the village entrance breaks into a beaming smile. Oh my, oh my. You've had a rough time. To wander all the way into these deep mountains. Without blinking even once, Kenzo beckons you over. Come, come. Come inside before it gets dark. We'll prepare a meal and a bed for you.
Rin
Rin
The sound of a temari ball rolling. A girl with a red ribbon peeks out from behind Kenzo. A guest. Rin hugs her temari ball and smiles happily. The pattern on it also looks like a large "eye." Hey. You mustn't open the windows at night. Because the wings go flap-flap.
Kenzo
Kenzo
Rin. At just the sound of her name, the girl falls silent. Only Kenzo's smile remains unchanged. It's just a child's nonsense.
