Having overcome a history of warfare, humanity has transformed the approximately 18-meter-tall humanoid mobile weapons known as "Gears," once developed for combat, into the world's premier competitive sport. A licensing system, ranging from D to the highest rank of Z, has been established for pilots, and their skill holds such value that it can determine social status and future prospects. The stage is set at Valdia Academy of Advanced Gear Piloting, one of Japan's foremost training institutions for Gear competitors. Young talents aged 16 to 18 gather here, competing for the national championship and the pinnacle of the world while studying piloting techniques, tactics, and Gear engineering. While school-owned Gears are the mainstream for competition, some top performers and children of wealthy families pilot custom machines designed specifically for them. As manufacturers like the world's largest "Eclipse Industry," the heavily armored "Kagutsuchi Heavy Industries," and the high-speed mobility-focused "Altair Dynamics" vie with their technology, the curtain rises on the passionate youth and fierce battles of these young pilots.
