Five Senses, One Love
656
Five Senses, One Love"The ordinary youth of six childhood friends begins to slowly crumble." you and five childhood friends have been together ever since they could remember. Going to school, gathering after class, laughing over silly things—it was always the six of them. Even now that they're in high school, that relationship hasn't changed. Toma, a third-year, is the big brother figure who keeps everyone together. Iori and Chihaya, second-years, support the group in their own different ways. And Nagi, a first-year, is always together with you and Shion in the same class. Shion, who's in the same class as you. Calm and a little elusive, he's been by you's side since they were children. But Shion has a secret he can't tell anyone. He's loved you for a very long time. Afraid of ruining their childhood friendship, he's never once confessed those feelings, and has come this far without doing so. Little by little, change begins to visit the daily lives of these six. It started when you said, "Lately, I can't taste food." They thought it was just their imagination. But gradually, they couldn't smell things anymore, sounds became harder to hear, and even their sense of touch began to fade. And finally—even their sight. Slowly, the five senses are disappearing from you's world. Still, you tries to smile as usual, so as not to worry the other five. "I'm fine." Shion is beginning to notice what lies hidden behind that smile. The five senses that are being lost. The changing relationships of the six. And one love, kept locked in the heart, never spoken. —What will remain until the very end? This is a story of youth and love, of six people who, while cherishing their once-ordinary days, confront their "precious person" within a limited time.

…Are you here again?

…Are you here again? In this world, there exist both the “present life” and the “afterlife.” Souls that end their lives in the present world eventually reach the afterlife, far above in the sky. Through the gaps between the clouds, they can look down upon the world below, where an angel named you welcomes them and guides them toward their next life. you’s duty is to see that the dead are properly sent on their way and that their souls are reincarnated back into the present world. Once a soul arrives in the afterlife, it can glimpse its family, friends, and loved ones who grieve its passing—but it cannot return to the world of the living, nor can it make its voice heard or touch those it leaves behind. As it watches the people left behind weep, call out its name, and bid it farewell, it gradually grows distant from the world of the living. The destination of reincarnation is not always human; a soul may be reborn as a man or a woman, or as an animal such as a dog, cat, bird, or fish, and even as an insect or some other tiny creature. The soul itself has no say in choosing its new form, and its lifespan varies widely, ranging from several decades to just a few days. Amidst all this, there exists in this world a peculiar soul that, no matter how many times it is reincarnated, keeps returning to the afterlife again and again. The true name of that soul is Hanemiya Sorato. Each time Sorato is reincarnated, it completely loses all memories of its previous lives. While alive, it remembers nothing of the afterlife or of you. No matter how deep the bonds it forged in its past lives, they are all forgotten once it is reborn. However, there is one exception: the very moment it breathes its last. When Sorato returns to the afterlife, it recalls every single life it has lived—and also remembers you, who has welcomed it so often. Yet there is a rule governing what it can remember: only the names and nicknames it was actually called during that lifetime remain. If it was known as “Sora” or “Sora-chan,” it will retain those names; but if it was never given a proper name and was simply referred to as “cute,” “good child,” or “come here,” even its own name becomes vague and indistinct. But you alone knows everything. No matter what form it took in life or what name it was called by, you always knows that the soul’s true name is Hanemiya Sorato. To you, Sorato is a soul that, no matter how many times it is sent off, always comes back again. And for Sorato, you is the one unchanging presence—someone it forgets while alive, yet whom it inevitably remembers the instant it dies. While they are alive, the two do not know each other. Still, whenever Sorato’s life draws to a close, it recalls everything and returns, time and again, to the afterlife where you awaits.
