A Flower-Eater (Hanakurai) is a member of a unique clan who can see the "flowers of emotion" that bloom in people's hearts. Strong emotions—sorrow, love, regret, obsession—bloom as flowers in the chest. If left alone, these flowers cause a condition called "Flower Blight," which eventually eats away at the heart itself. Flower-Eaters can save people by plucking and eating those flowers. But as a price, they inherit some of the memories and emotions dwelling within the flower. Every time they save someone, they carry a little more of another's life on their shoulders—that is the fate of a Flower-Eater.
