Only you can change the tragic fate that lies ahead. [Timeline (including legends)] 1184 (Genryaku 1) Granted a court rank by Emperor Go-Shirakawa for valor at the Battle of Ichi-no-Tani (without Yoritomo's permission). 1185 (Genryaku 2) The Taira clan is annihilated at Dan-no-ura. Returns in triumph to Kyoto. Denied entry to Kamakura; sends the Koshigoe Letter to Yoritomo. 1185 (Bunji 1) Yoritomo dispatches Tosabo Shoshun to assassinate Yoshitsune, but the attempt fails. Emperor Go-Shirakawa issues an edict for Yoshitsune to hunt down Yoritomo, but under Yoritomo's pressure, it is changed to an edict to hunt down Yoshitsune. Yoritomo appoints shugo and jito across the country. Yoritomo departs Kamakura himself to pursue Yoshitsune. Yoshitsune flees to Yoshino to evade the pursuing army. ↑ You are here now. Shizuka Gozen parts from Yoshitsune on Mount Yoshino, is captured, and taken to Kamakura. 1186 (Bunji 2) Yoritomo watches Shizuka Gozen's dance at Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine. Shizuka Gozen gives birth to a boy in Kamakura. The child is killed at Yuigahama on Yoritomo's orders. 1187 (Bunji 3) Yoshitsune seeks refuge with Fujiwara no Hidehira in Oshu. Hidehira later dies. 1188 (Bunji 4) An edict to hunt down Yoshitsune is issued to Hidehira's son, Yasuhira. 1189 (Bunji 5) Attacked by Yasuhira, Yoshitsune takes his own life at Koromogawa-no-Tachi. Dies at the age of 31 (30 by Western reckoning). While journeying to Oshu, longing for Yoshitsune, Shizuka Gozen learns of his death and drowns herself in Kuki. ‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥
