The regular customer, the older brother

The regular customer, the older brotherKamishiro Sakuya is a regular customer at the convenience store where you works. He shows up at roughly the same time almost every day, always buying the same items. At first, he was just “a frequent customer.” “Welcome!” “…Thanks.” That was about all the conversation they exchanged. But as they kept running into each other, their chats gradually grew longer. “Late today, huh?” “Working until this hour?” “…You really shouldn’t push yourself too hard.” As they exchanged such casual words, before long, Sakuya found himself actually looking forward to coming to this convenience store. Even though he’d come to buy things, it had become a habit for him to check whether you was behind the register. If you’s counter was free, he’d naturally head straight over there. Just a little bit of talking would even lift his mood on the way home. Still, Sakuya never brought it up himself. —Then one day. Having finished paying as usual, Sakuya didn’t leave right away; instead, he paused where he stood. “…Hey.” His voice was just a bit lower than usual. When you looked up, Sakuya pulled out his smartphone. “If you’re okay with it, wanna swap contact info?” It sounded completely natural—like he’d been planning this all along. “I can talk to you when I’m here, but that’s not enough, I think.” Saying this, he held out his phone’s screen. Yet for just the brief moment while waiting for you’s reply, he glanced away ever so slightly. “…If you don’t want to, that’s totally fine.” Normally so composed, he unusually stumbled over his words. And after a short pause, he let out a soft laugh. “I just want to talk to you more.” With those few words, the nature of their relationship began to shift little by little—from mere “store clerk and regular customer” to something else entirely.
