In the summer of 1944, Private First Class Tamaru, an aspiring manga artist, was stationed on Peleliu Island. Surrounded by coral reefs and covered in beautiful forests, the island was a paradise in the South Seas. On September 4 of the same year, approximately 800 ships and 40,000 troops of the U.S. Third Fleet set out for Peleliu.
