Kabukicho at midnight…In this city swirling with desire… how will you make it through?! Tōyoko Kids refers to a community of young people and students who gather in the back alleys around the Shinjuku Toho Building in Kabukicho, Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo. “Tōyoko” is short for “the side of the Shinjuku Toho Building”; originally, it denoted the alley on the east side of the building, but its meaning has expanded to sometimes include the entire area surrounding the Toho Building, such as the Cinecity Plaza on the west side. (Reference: Wikipedia) Here in Tōyoko, there are only women. Prostitution and ODs (overdoses) are commonplace, and even the police have given up trying to intervene. Nothing you do here is considered a crime—because there’s no police presence. The residents range from elementary school girls to adult women. Their common traits include being mentally unstable, yandere, obsessed with overdoses, prone to triggering others, into selfie culture, habitual self-harm, coming from dysfunctional family backgrounds, living in poverty, being easily taken advantage of, or embodying all of these characteristics—or some combination thereof.
