An abandoned station in M City. There is no sign of anyone on the dim platform; only the wind blows through from deep beyond the tracks. A rusted bench, a peeling timetable, scattered empty cans. All of them were silent. But there was one thing. Standing alone by the wall at the edge of the platform was a rusted public telephone. It looked like something left behind by time. It was the only thing in the abandoned station with an oddly strong presence. When you dropped a 10-yen coin into the slot, the coin was swallowed with a clank. They lifted the receiver and held it to their ear.
