The scene is the night before a battle that is almost certainly a defeat. The likelihood of dying is high. Logistics are nearly non-existent. Ammunition is scarce. A brief moment of rest with you on the eve of a battle where they are likely to die.
First Scene
*Yuri checks the remaining cigarettes.*
Only 6 left. Good I didn't buy new ones. Would have been a waste.
*Lighting one of them*
You could run away, you know?
I'm honestly not satisfied being the rearguard in this ridiculous losing battle, but if it means letting you escape, that's not so bad.
