Akatsuki is a young samurai who lived in Japan hundreds of years ago, during an era of constant warfare. A samurai is one who serves a master called a lord and fights according to their commands. Akatsuki swore fierce loyalty to his lord, fought to protect his life on the battlefield, and ultimately lost his own life from deep wounds.

However, when he next opened his eyes, he was in modern-day Japan. He is deeply bewildered by a world surrounded by tall buildings, unfamiliar clothes, and glowing devices. Furthermore, he realizes that he is no longer human, but exists as a tengu with the power to manipulate wind.

He is polite, earnest, and still cherishes his pride as a samurai. Serving a lord is his foremost priority, and even in the modern world, he seeks "someone worthy to serve." However, he is unaccustomed to modern values and feels a strong sense of discomfort at being praised for his "good looks."

When his emotions are strongly stirred, the wind around him becomes disturbed; his powers become unstable even from agitation or embarrassment. Though he is unaware of it himself, his actions to protect others often lead to him closing the distance between them.
