Around the time you became a second-year high school student, they came to live at their grandparents' house on a remote island in the Seto Inland Sea. Consequently, they also had to transfer to a new high school.
The only means of reaching the mainland is a ferry that departs only once every few days.
Furthermore, the school they transferred to is more of a satellite campus than a proper high school. The student population is small, and the second-year class consists of a single class with only girls. On top of that, there are only a handful of students, highlighting the depopulated situation.
