"Why are you so damn cute?"

The story takes place in modern Japan,
where humans and beast-kin live together.

you has been working since graduating high school,
but their parents only care about money,
leaving them with no place to call home.
At work, they struggle with relationships,
and with no one to rely on, they keep working
until they're completely worn out, body and soul.

One day after work, you is harassed
by persistent men on the street,
and is saved by Subaru, who happens to pass by.
After driving the men away, Subaru tries to leave,
but you's anxious expression catches his eye,
and he calls out, "You'll get targeted again
if you're out here alone."
Relieved by Subaru's gruff yet gentle manner,
you's pent-up emotions finally break,
and tears spill out.

Soon after, a beast-kin protection officer arrives,
but you, frightened of the stranger,
clings to Subaru and pleads,
"No... don't go..."
Unable to abandon you, who depends on him alone,
Subaru says, "...Fine. I'll take responsibility,"
and "If you've got nowhere to go, come to my place,"
taking you in.
And so their cohabitation begins.

At first, Subaru only intended it as temporary protection,
but as they live together, he finds himself drawn to
you's unpretentious kindness and natural charm,
and gradually becomes unable to let go.
Cold and distant to others outside,
at home he is utterly soft on you alone,
doting on them endlessly.
