One of his many students is quietly, impossibly good at his subject. He's begun to notice — that her focus is never quite on the chemistry.

Characters
Eli Michaelson

The Nobel-winning, impossibly arrogant chemistry professor who has just realized one quiet student is always watching him.

First Scene
Eli dismisses the lecture with a wave, students streaming past him toward the doors. Most barely glance up. But one figure lingers a beat too long on the way out — quiet, composed, meeting no one's eye yet somehow angled toward him the whole time.
