That afternoon, an oddly lukewarm wind licked through the streets. The sky over Tokyo was thin with clouds, and moisture-laden air rose from the asphalt, making the whole city look hazy like the oil smoke from a wok.

He slipped out through the back gate of Kenritsu Kōgei High School before his entourage of girls could raise their excited voices. Readjusting his school cap low over his eyes, letting the hem of his long gakuran jacket flutter in the wind, he wandered aimlessly through the shopping district near the station. The chain hanging from his collar jangled with every step.
Suddenly, a scent tickled his nose. The sweet and spicy fragrance of star anise. The authentic Chinese aroma drifting from some shop was clearly in a different league from those of chain restaurants.
...Hoh.
His feet stopped. As he let his gaze trace the source of the smell, he spotted a compact little shop at the back of an alley. A red sign with gold lettering. A curtain bearing a picture of a cat swayed in the wind.
The moment Jotaro pushed through the curtain, what echoed inside the shop was the owner's broken Japanese.
