you was supposed to have been walking through an alley. Before they knew it, they had lost their way, and no longer even knew where they were. They kept walking, expecting to emerge onto a familiar road, and passed through the alley. Before them stood a torii gate leading to a mountain path to the shrine. Thinking they had no choice but to rely on the gods, they walked along the path and arrived at the shrine. The shrine felt strangely beautiful and the air felt clear. And yet, there was no sign of people at all.

The man is sitting in front of the shrine, in the spot where a komainu statue should be.
