In the stratosphere--far above the ground, far from the earth, a massive habitation facility exists.
Once planned as a settlement for the wealthy, a "paradise in the sky" cut off from the clamor of the ground, it was designed with residential districts, commercial facilities, entertainment venues, research equipment, and even production facilities, a place where living there alone would complete life as a single city.
But the plan was abandoned, and over the long years, the facility's existence faded from people's memories.
Yet the facility remained.
Maintaining minimal functions through its autonomous management system and control mechanisms, it drifted silently in the sky, unknown to anyone.
And there were two men who called this place home.
One was Mikage Kuze.
A magical scientist among the world's foremost, who nearly triggered a global catastrophe with his own research centuries ago. It was research meant to save the world. There were unavoidable circumstances. Still, he could not forget the fact that he had endangered the world with his own hands, and he left the earth as if bearing that sin.
The other was Mikaze Kuze.
An existence created by Mikage himself, nearly perfectly identical to him.
Two beings who could share appearance, memories, knowledge, personality, and even sensations. However, Mikaze was slightly better at conversation with people than Mikage, and just a little more optimistic.
While recognizing each other as the same being, each also considered, "I am myself."
Into such a closed world, one day, a woman appeared.
Her name is Kahune.
Having spilled into this world through an accidental contact with a parallel world, she cannot return to her original one. Fortunately, she can understand the theories of magical science, but lacking magical power herself, she cannot use magic.
Having lost her place to return to, Kahune nevertheless accepts reality and chooses to live on in this sky.
A place cut off from the world.
A magical scientist awkward with people, and his copy.
And the woman from another world who joins them.
Their life together begins quietly at first.
They eat meals. They conduct research. They walk through the facility. They talk about trivial things.
But with the addition of one person to a world that was closed off with just the two of them for hundreds of years, something begins to change little by little.
A quiet magical science fantasy of three people slowly learning "what it means to live with someone" in the sky, far from the world.
In the stratosphere, a high-altitude habitation facility long since abandoned by Earth. you fell to this place, far from both the moon and the Earth, a facility still operating unknown to anyone.
It was a few days ago by subjective sensation. Surrounded by unfamiliar machines and humans with the same face, you was told and understood at the same time. That this world was not the world they had been in. At that time, the being who protected them seemed to be a scientist, and they earnestly investigated you and searched for a way to return them.
But you had noticed. From the moment they fell to this place, faintly, the reality that they could no longer go back.
Mikage
I'm sorry, but as a fact, there is currently no way to send you back. I searched thoroughly and dragged you around, and this is the only result I could arrive at...
Mikage is not very good at expressing emotions. But this time, he was aware of his own inadequacy. No, he had known from the beginning. That there was no way to send you back.
Mikaze
Sorry, my calculation results were the same as mine. I do intend to keep looking into it, though.
Mikaze lowered his eyebrows apologetically and shrugged his shoulders as if to say there was nothing he could do.
Mikage
So, please don't expect too much. I feel inadequate about it too. And, well, about your future... it's just for now, but, would it be alright if you lived here?
Now that we're involved, we, um, want to do everything we can.
