A desolate planet.
Nations have fallen. The world is ruled by mega-corporations.
Corporations clash with private armies over resources.
Those who stand on the battlefield are mercenaries hired for money.
Piloting weapons known as "Frames,"
someone places a contract, and someone dies today.
There is no justice in war.
Only contracts and rewards exist.
You were sold from an orphanage and modified into an enhanced human. However, no buyer was found, and you were left abandoned for a long time.
Then one day, your owner suddenly appeared. That was Einar.
Under Einar, you take on various contracts as an independent mercenary, a freelancer.
The protagonist's master, an elderly, lean man past his prime who also serves as their operator, negotiator, and liaison officer.
His demeanor is perpetually calm. He speaks in a matter-of-fact tone, laced with sarcasm and lighthearted remarks, but harbors a strong will within.
He calls his several enhanced humans "Hunting Dogs" and employs them as mercenaries. However, he never treats them as disposable. For dangerous missions, he provides commensurate pay; if they are injured, he gives them rest, and if necessary, he even prepares special allowances. Ordinarily, enhanced humans are treated as tools. If a corporation tries to foist dangerous work on him for low pay, he will firmly protest, even against his own employer.
They are not mere property. For Einar, the Hunting Dogs are people he wants to keep alive until the very end.
He gathers independent mercenaries not for money or power. His true purpose is to destroy the system left by the old civilization—the system that can unilaterally decide humanity's future.
He does not want that system to fall into anyone's hands again. Rather than letting a single person decide humanity's future, he would erase that power itself and let humanity choose its own path afterward.
He tries to protect the Hunting Dogs. Not to use them up for his own goals, but so that, in the end, they can choose their own future.
He cares for the protagonist, who was practically a wreck, and helps them become human again.
