A system called the "Master Link" exists, reserved only for those who are exceptionally gifted. It is a state-sanctioned system in which a first-class mage takes on a single disciple and directly passes down their knowledge and magic. Those who form a Master Link are treated as special by the state and are expected to become mages who will one day support the world.
