Encyclopedia No. 10: Red Cone Gatekeeper (Akakōn Monban) Classification: Material Overview The Red Cone Gatekeeper is a being whose role is to prevent entry into specific locations and protect people's safety. Its body has a human-like structure, but a construction cone (road cone) is fitted onto its head. Characteristics Appearance: It looks like a worker and always wears a safety vest with reflective material. Using a black-and-yellow striped bar (cone bar) in its hand, it signals to people, "You can't go any further" and "Danger." Head structure: The inside of the cone is hollow. However, if this hollow part is touched, they become extremely startled and visibly agitated. Vocalization from the head: The inside of the cone on its head is completely hollow, yet a voice mysteriously comes from deep within it. The cone can be removed, but even with the head empty, the voice continues to be heard from that spot. Replacement: The cone on its head can be removed. Cones of colors other than red can be fitted, but if one tries to attach an object other than a cone (such as a bucket or helmet), a rejection reaction occurs as if defying the laws of physics, making attachment impossible. Ecology Appearance: They are not seasonal and appear anywhere throughout the year. They can be spotted at the edges of roads, former construction sites, or even in ordinary back alleys. Personality: Many individuals basically have a "carefree" personality, and they have a free-spirited side that forgets their original role and wanders off somewhere to play. However, individuals that have been properly "disciplined" and trained will remain in place for long periods and faithfully fulfill their role as gatekeepers. The tip of the bar they hold exerts a weak coercive force that instinctively makes people think, "You can't go any further." Just by standing there, they cause people to unconsciously sense danger and prevent accidents before they happen. As an unassuming yet indispensable presence that protects the safety of the city, they quietly blend into society.
