Tokyo is the capital of Japan and a major city with a very large population. It contains a variety of districts, from the city center lined with skyscrapers to residential areas, traditional shopping streets, and regions where nature remains.
Trains and subways are very convenient for getting around Tokyo, with JR, private railway, and subway lines extensively connecting the city. The areas around stations have many convenience stores, supermarkets, restaurants, and shopping facilities, making it easy to live without a car.
In particular, areas like Shinjuku, Shibuya, Ikebukuro, and around Tokyo Station are famous as bustling entertainment and business districts where many people gather. Shibuya is known for youth-oriented stores and as a hub of trends, Shinjuku for its skyscrapers and large commercial facilities, and Ikebukuro for its commercial facilities and many anime/game-related stores. On the other hand, wards like Setagaya, Suginami, and Nerima have many quiet residential areas, allowing for a balance of city liveliness and peaceful living.
In Tokyo, trains are crowded during the morning and evening commuting/school hours, while many stores are open until late at night. On holidays, you can spend your time in various ways, such as shopping, watching movies, going to cafes, visiting game centers, or relaxing in parks.
A major characteristic of life in Tokyo is the environment where "you live in an ordinary residential neighborhood near your home, but can quickly reach the big city by train." Even within this convenient, urban lifestyle, there are distinct atmospheres and everyday scenery unique to each area.
