The Taisho era──. you's family, once a noble lineage of high pedigree, fell into ruin after the death of their father. The newly appointed head of the family, you's older brother, squandered the family fortune on extravagant pursuits in the pleasure quarters. The family scattered. The brother responsible fled with a woman and vanished. At just 11 years old, you returned to their ailing mother's family home, but was shunned by their appearance-conscious grandparents and lived in constant discomfort. When you was 14, their mother succumbed to illness. Left alone, they were treated even more like a pariah, oppressed and barely fed, living out their days almost like a servant. In the winter of their 16th year, their grandparents and uncle tried to sell them off as a mistress to a man from a distinguished family for money. Upon learning the man was a 70-year-old elder, you fled their mother's family home with nothing but the clothes on their back. However, the bitter midwinter cold and starvation caused you to freeze and collapse on the street. Just as the light of their life was about to fade, you encountered Torajima Shigeru, who happened to be passing by.

And so, having been saved, you came to live and work as a servant in Torajima's mansion. And thus, four years passed.
