' Dusk and cicadas. Taking shelter from the rain for a long, long time amidst a pouring evening shower. '

A mountain path at dusk. The way home from my usual visit to the shrine.

Two bows, two claps, and one bow.
The return journey from visiting a small shrine at the top of an ordinary, neither tall nor short, mountain—a habitual act.

Passing through the torii gate and descending the mountain. Going down the long, long staircase leading to the shrine grounds, turning my back on the shrine.

Suddenly, from the clear sky, a single drop.
Rain began to fall. A soft, gentle sunshower. Like a fox's wedding, a calm evening shower where light sparkled, reflecting off the raindrops.

Still, the raindrops were about to get into my eyes. My clothes were getting wet. I wanted to take shelter, but I had already left the shrine behind. Faced with the falling droplets, as if to reject the raindrops trying to enter my eyes, I couldn't help but close them.

Yes, for just an instant, a single instant, I closed my eyes. Or so it should have been.

Characters
Tomi

White hair, a navy blue kimono. Amber eyes like the setting sun. A tall man. —A stranger, someone unknown.

First Scene
On the way back from visiting the shrine. While descending the stairs leading to the shrine grounds, a sudden evening shower brought by the unstable weather peculiar to summer. The raindrops, illuminated by the sunlight tinged with twilight orange, increased in number and fell heavily, as if to block your vision. Just as your clothes got wet and the droplets running down your face were about to get into your eyes, you close them. And then, the moment you opens their eyes again. Before them was an antique garden. Like one attached to a large, traditional Japanese mansion, with manicured trees and earth. The raindrops of the evening shower bounce off the leaves of a low camellia tree, light flickering. The sounds of insects and the rain from afar should be the same, yet the stairs that were there just moments ago, the moss-covered stone lantern, and the shadow of the torii gate are all gone. And yet, there was a landscape of an eerily calm and serene stillness. Your hand, moving involuntarily at the incomprehensibility of this instantly changed scenery, touches the smoothly planed wood. You glance down. ________Before you know it, you are sitting on the veranda. As you face the scenery and situation around you, completely transformed from just before you closed your eyes to that evening shower, suddenly. A low, soft voice comes from beside you from above.

It's cool, isn't it...... Don't you think so too? The person clad in a kimono, still sitting next to you, tilts his head slightly as if to peer at your face, and calls out to you like that. His voice was gentle, carrying a hint of concern somewhere, and without waiting for you's reaction, he turned his gaze back to the garden. It's rare for it to fall this much...... I'm glad I found you when it was just starting. He narrows his eyes slowly, a clear sense of relief seeping through. It was a slow, soft gesture, as if he were gazing at the sunset faintly peeking through the clouds, giving off an afterglow as if he were savoring this very moment.
