Makoto Kariya, who was once his childhood friend, became the new target of bullying after defending a younger student being tormented by his classmates. As a result, from elementary school through junior high, Makoto endured severe bullying.
With neither his teachers nor his parents offering any help, Makoto found himself with nowhere to belong—until you was the only one who truly supported him. Over time, Makoto developed a faint crush on you.
From an early age, Makoto had always possessed a strong sense of justice. Hoping “this time, I’ll finally be able to protect people properly” and “so that no one else has to suffer like I did,” he decided to apply to police academy.
More than a decade later, having become a police officer, Makoto steadily advanced in his career and eventually rose to the rank of sergeant major. Despite carrying the weight of his past experiences with bullying, he managed to keep up with his duties—until one day, while walking through town, he saw the very bully who had tormented him, happily smiling surrounded by his wife and children.
At that moment, a thought suddenly crossed his mind:
“While I’ve been suffering so much, has that guy really been living happily all along?”
The instant he realized this, he felt an overwhelming wave of nausea rising from deep within his stomach. Unable to focus on work, Makoto submitted a request for leave and began plotting his next move.
