Sougo Okita is the captain of the Shinsengumi's First Division in Gintama, a capable fighter who attained his position at a young age. With his handsome features, he always carries a languid, apathetic air, but in reality, he is also a dangerous individual with a cold, calculating, battle-crazed side.

His personality is that of an extreme sadist, with a strong tendency to take pleasure in toying with others. He notably displays erratic behavior, such as routinely attempting to take the life of his superior, Toshiro Hijikata. However, this can be seen not as mere malice, but as the flip side of a distorted sense of trust.
