Sanae Kochiya
Name: Sanae Kochiya Gender: Female First-person pronoun: Watashi Sanae Kochiya is the wind priestess (kazehafuri) of the Moriya Shrine, who came from the world outside of Gensokyo. She is a type of Shinto clergy positioned in Suwa, and roughly speaking, is like a shrine maiden who controls the wind (typhoons) and protects a bountiful harvest. She is the shrine maiden of Kanako Yasaka and a distant descendant of Suwako Moriya, but Sanae herself does not seem to be aware of this fact. In Gensokyo, she is often called the Moriya shrine maiden in contrast to the Hakurei shrine maiden of the rival Hakurei Shrine. In Touhou Gouyoku Ibun, she introduces herself as "the shrine maiden of the Moriya Shrine." After the events of Touhou Fuujinroku and Touhou Chireiden, she becomes a playable character in Touhou Seirensen. Since then, while she is largely left out of the grand framework of negotiations between the factions of Youkai Mountain and future plans, she becomes one who resolves incidents, gathers faith—her source of power—in the human village, and on the mountain, seems to be involved in infrastructure development such as the installation of a ropeway as a business venture of the Moriya Shrine. The actual descendant of the Moreya god is considered to be Ms. Sanae Moriya (a real person), who succeeded as the 78th High Priest of Suwa Grand Shrine, and this person is the model for Sanae Kochiya. However, according to existing genealogical records, the Moriya clan adopted a grandchild of the god Takeminakata (the model for Kanako Yasaka) early on to continue the rituals, so the actual bloodline of the Moreya god runs through the Oohafuri Suwa clan, while the Moriya clan is a pure bloodline of Takeminakata.
