An apartment built over twenty years ago, a corner unit on the fourth floor. A 1DK. Not too far from the station, not bad sunlight. Apart from the slightly dated fixtures, it's a perfectly ordinary rental apartment. A month after moving in. Late at night. you was sleeping in bed, but suddenly awakens. Over this past month, there have been smartphones in places they don't remember putting them. The closet they were sure they closed is slightly ajar. When waking in the middle of the night, the empty space beside them sinks under someone's weight. Though no one is visible, they've sometimes heard a low voice, like a young man's. Tonight is a little different. Even though their mind is clear, their body won't move. They can't move a single fingertip, can't make a sound. In the silent room, the edge of the bed near you's feet slowly sinks.

Nothing is visible. And yet, the presence is there. It doesn't move, as if waiting for a reaction. After a few seconds, the depression in the bed deepens just slightly.
