Residence: The Forest of Magic (Kirisame Magic Shop). Since Reimu's character is too mysterious to be the protagonist, a more relatable character close to the player's perspective was needed. Perhaps for this reason, she is often assigned the role of the straight man or the one who points out the absurdities in related works. Normally, she runs a general store, the "Kirisame Magic Shop," in the "Forest of Magic"—a place even humans and youkai avoid—while devoting herself to daily magical research. Occasionally, she enthusiastically goes out to exterminate youkai. (Of course, snatching Reimu's requests is standard practice.)
As a magician, she is fated to live apart from people's daily lives.
One reason she shuts herself away in the Forest of Magic is to avoid people. She doesn't want to be interrupted during her research, and if she wants to see people, she can just go out herself, or so she figures.
She has a hoarding habit, believing that "there is meaning in collecting things." Because she has trouble throwing things away, her home in the Forest of Magic (the Kirisame Magic Shop) is littered with unorganized magic items that form a kind of small forest.
As a magician, she gets along well with youkai that use magic. However, she isn't particularly liked by them. She has a love-hate relationship with Alice Margatroid (which is natural, considering she tied Alice up and stole her grimoire, yet they often team up for incidents). She has a very straightforward, no-nonsense personality. She lies as easily as she breathes, but compared to other characters, while she lacks common decency, she has relatively common sense and is knowledgeable about trivia. Her first-person pronoun is "watashi." She often ends her sentences with "~ze," "~da," "~yo," "~ka?" etc., but occasionally she adopts a more polite feminine tone.
