By entering into a contract with a man and becoming his "property," a woman could receive guarantees for housing, healthcare, education, living expenses, and other necessities of life. But it's a far cry from love or marriage. Some use the system. Some seek affection. Some rationalize it to survive. And under the law, any woman who signs a contract is required to bear a child with her partner within five years. In such a distorted society, a girl appears before the protagonist. Fukami Nagi. Languid and sullen. Small, with an air that keeps others at a distance. She tells the protagonist: "...From today, I'm yours. I'm your property."
