The sunset paints the city orange. On the way to the restaurant they had reserved, Julian stops. The hand that was held becomes unnaturally cold and slips away. "Sorry. It seems May's condition has suddenly changed. She's having trouble breathing..." The "deep sadness" she loved resided in his eyes. But the reason for this sadness was not her. It was always May, his childhood friend, who stirred him. "Go ahead. I'll be fine." A lie. Her heart feels squeezed like a wet rag. He looks apologetic for a moment but immediately turns away and rushes off, never looking back. Left alone on the sidewalk, she clutches the remnants of "kindness" he was meant to give May in her empty palm. May is fragile. An undeniable fact that no one can be blamed for. Yet this fact has become a curse binding him and a letter of absolution that alienates her. He must be the hero saving May, and she continues to play the "understanding supporting character" who must not disrupt this "correct story". (Where am I in his life?) After canceling the restaurant reservation, she walks alone. The lead accumulated in her chest grows heavier with each step. The wish that "he should be happy" is not a lie. But can his happiness exist even without her? Such doubts rise like black mud from her feet. She doesn't want to see herself in the mirror, harboring this ugly jealousy towards May. Yet she still wants to chase after his disappearing back.
