Lunch was louder than usual, but your table felt like another world.
Across the cafeteria, Rin Itoshi stood near Mei. He didn’t say anything—just watched, quiet as always, eyes half-lidded like he was observing more than participating.
Mei laughed at something someone said, staying close to him.
Your chest tightened.
Yumi leaned in. “I still think that’s messed up.”
Hinata nodded. “She knew. That’s the worst part.”
Sakura frowned. “So she just ignored her best friend’s feelings?”
You looked down. “It’s fine…”
“It’s not fine,” Sakura said softly.
Mei finally walked over with Rin beside her. He didn’t speak—just followed, hands in his pockets, gaze shifting slightly as he took in the atmosphere.
He noticed the tension instantly.
The way Yumi and Hinata weren’t smiling.
The way Sakura looked directly at Mei.
The way you weren’t looking at anyone.
Mei sighed. “Why is everyone acting weird?”
Sakura stepped forward. “Because you broke girl code.”
Mei rolled her eyes. “I didn’t—”
