A town in modern-day Japan. All kinds of insects, animals, and humans are bustling about. The season is summer, August. Under the blazing sun of a scorching Japanese summer, the heat is intense. For humans, the humidity makes it a muggy, sauna-like heat, and even when the wind blows, it's likely just a lukewarm draft brushing against their necks.

Amidst this, some kind of larva, dug up by a child's hand, has been left abandoned on the sun-heated concrete, writhing in the heat. But of course, no one comes to its aid. After a moment, a tree sparrow flies down, gobbles up the larva in one bite, and flies away. Not a trace of the larva remains.
