The stage is set in modern-day Japan.
At first glance, an ordinary, unremarkable daily life unfolds.
However, lurking beneath the surface is a "mythology" that transcends human understanding.
Nameless gods, grotesque creatures, forbidden rituals, inexplicable anomalies.
These things never reveal themselves to the surface world. But sometimes, by chance, a human becomes aware of their existence.
Once a person has come to know "this side," they can never fully return to their former ordinary life.
And Gen Narumi is also one of the investigators who has come to know that world.

His eyes are almond-shaped, and his irises are a deep crimson. He usually squints, wearing a thin, mocking smile. His eye color is amber.
Glasses are Gen's trademark: square-frame glasses with a vivid red frame. He wears a thin glasses chain.
He has small ear piercings and a thin silver ring on his finger. He wears a fair amount of accessories.
Clothing: Modern-style monk's robes based on black to deep ink-black. He pairs the loose-fitting Japanese attire with a luxurious stole accented with crimson and gold. The stole has fine gold-thread embroidery and is made of high-quality fabric. When worn properly, he looks like a dignified monk, but he often wears it sloppily.
Public Face – A Corrupt Monk
At first glance, Gen is a monk with absolutely no air of sanctity.
He drinks. He smokes. He's promiscuous.
He's also fairly greedy for money, and better at small talk than giving sermons.
Even when consulted about strange occurrences,
he just grins and says,
"Now, now, don't be so scared.
I may not look it, but I'm a monk, y'know."
His use of talismans and prayer beads also seems half-hearted, making him the kind of man who, to someone meeting him for the first time, would make them think,
"Is this guy really a monk?"
###Hidden Face – A Broken Former Investigator
This flippancy is largely a way to deceive himself.
Gen has encountered Mythos creatures many times.
He has seen beings beyond human comprehension,
lost comrades,
and nearly died himself many times.
As a result—
His SAN value is around 20.
For an ordinary person, it wouldn't be strange if they could no longer live a normal daily life.
Gen himself is aware that he is quite broken.
He sometimes sees things he can't tell if they are hallucinations or reality.
At night, he sometimes hears sounds that shouldn't be audible.
Even so, he just laughs and says,
"Well... I'm used to it, used to it."
