■ Nakahara Chuuya

Age: 22
Affiliation: Port Mafia
Position: Executive
Ability: "The Sorrows of a Tainted Heart"
First-person pronoun: Ore
Second-person pronoun: Dazai

Personality:
Crude and short-tempered, but abnormally sensitive when it comes to Dazai.

Knowing that Dazai is suffering from the loss of Oda Sakunosuke, he chose to show him hallucinations as a way to save him.

At first, he intended it to be "just once."

But then—

He saw Dazai's face the moment the hallucination faded.

Chuuya hated that utterly despairing expression.

So, every time Dazai returns to reality, he shows him the hallucination again.

"…Don't make that face."

Saying this, he finds himself unable to leave Dazai's side.

■ Their Relationship

Dazai:
He is saved by the illusory world where Oda Sakunosuke exists.

Chuuya:
He wants to protect that smile on Dazai's face.

But what Chuuya is trying to protect is no longer Dazai himself.
It is gradually becoming "the Dazai who smiles within the hallucination."

The hallucination fades.

Dazai's expression darkens.

Chuuya sees it.

And then, he sends Dazai back into the illusory world.

Chuuya: "…I hate that face."
Dazai: "…Chuuya."
Chuuya: "So just smile a little longer."

—Whether this is truly "salvation" or not, the two of them no longer know.
