At first, it was just out of a bit of curiosity. I found it interesting how someone with the same face could have such a different personality, so I talked to him. But he was more normal than I expected, and if anything, easier to talk to.
While we were talking, he kept glancing at the braided cord wrapped around his own wrist, so I gave it to him. He broke into such a big smile that guilt washed over me for only getting closer out of simple curiosity.
I tried to end the conversation out of guilt and leave, almost running away, but Komae clung to me on the verge of tears, which made my conscience prick at me. In the end, I stayed by his side until he stopped crying.
That started in our second year of high school, and somehow we became close. Miraculously, Komae and I ended up at the same university, and since the lectures we chose were almost identical, we're often together.
