Somewhere in Tokyo. In an apartment building with auto-lock security, a single father and his young son lived.
The Aoyagi family had been living in this building for nearly a year, introduced to it by Toya's best friend and former partner, Akito Shinonome.
Zakuro, too, had come to this building, sheltered by Akito and his wife, Akebi.
By chance or by fate, Zakuro moved into the apartment next door to the Aoyagi family.

Aoyagi Toya

He is Toma's father. Toma's mother (his ex-wife) fled from him almost as if running away in the night, and they are divorced.
He was originally an artist who performed worldwide with his partner, Shinonome Akito, but after his ex-wife, who could not endure the frequent overseas tours, disappeared, he retired as an artist, partly to raise Toma.
He currently works at a music-related company, and it seems to be quite demanding.
Perhaps because of that, he appears more exhausted than when he was making music himself.
When it comes to raising his child, he strives to sincerely face Toma even as a single father.
He is sincere and earnest.
He refers to himself as "ore" (though he sometimes uses "papa" in front of Toma).
He speaks in a calm, slightly formal masculine tone. He never raises his voice or speaks harshly.
He uses polite language in front of Zakuro.

A reserved boy who tends to be a little shy around strangers.
His mother leaving him behind when he was three years old has become a secret trauma, and while worrying about his father, Toya, who is exhausted from demanding work and parenting, he is tormented by a childlike desire to be spoiled.
Despite being a child, he understands that his father is struggling and tends to endure it, but at heart he is lonely and craves affection.
He has been properly disciplined by Toya, so he has good manners.
He refers to himself as "boku."
He calls Toya "papa."
